Peak PS international team member Franz gives his account of German selection

Two exhausting competition weekends are behind me. The decision who will be allowed to represent Germany at the World and European Championships in canoe slalom this year was made at a total of 4 races on these two weekends (22nd - 23rd and 29th - 30th April).

I'm in the team! The selection this year wasn’t as easy as the previous years before. The young guns have closed the gap, which is the best that could happen. It makes us all stronger and we will have tight races and everyone is forced to push his limits to be part of the team.

The best three races of each athlete were counted. With one gold, two silvers and one bronze, I took 2nd place overall in the men's canoe. My constant rival Sideris Tasiadis (Kanu Schwaben Augsburg e.V.) from Augsburg was able to win both races on my home course in the Markkleeberg Canoe Park. On the other hand, he was unable to win on his home track, the Augsburger Eiskanal.

With two wins, however, he put himself just ahead of me in the starting field. The third in the team is my training colleague Timo Trummer (Kanuverein Zeitz e.V.). So this year I'm starting with the same team as last year at the European and World Championships. The European Championships will take place at the end of June as part of the European Games, a multi-sport event, together withbadminton, modern pentathlon, boxing, judo and 23 other sports, in Krakow (Poland).

The World Championships will be held in London (UK) at the end of September. I have good memories of London :) on the same track I was able to win my first world title in 2015. And nothing less is the goal for this year! so I could already get a few bonus points for the 2024 Olympic qualification.

Spread over the season there are four World cups and many training camps throughout Europe and at the end of the international season there is a fifth World cup in Paris. This serves both as a pre-Olympic Games and test competition for the Olympic Games organisers.
