Sebastian Schubert in Rio

I was in Rio de Janeiro for 16 days at the end of November and the for the first week of December. It was a great time with a lot of really good training sessions and of course 3 good days of racing during the Olympic testament. This ended well for me as I was able to finish the race in second place. This result shows me that I did a good analysis of last season and I’m on the right way into the next season!

My first thoughts of the new Olympic slalom course were that it was small and didn’t look great to paddle. This feeling was confirmed during the first two sessions, but from the 3rd training day onwards I got used to the water and the conditions in Rio, and I started to like the course. Not only the paddling was strange in the first days, but Rio is so different to European cities. At first I felt not so good whilst driving through  the favelas. The people didn’t stop at red traffic lights which was just confusing in the first days, but later it was ok and it felt strange to stop at red lights back home ;-) In the end I had a good time in Rio, and as a bonus I found a couple of good places to drink caipirinhas and eat some good food!

Now I will enjoy christmas time!

Merry christmas to all of you!
