What's your story?

I was lucky to be born in Augsburg, otherwise I would probably never have started canoeing. Because my parents were kayaking as well (not slalom, just whitewater), I also wanted to go kayaking when they were paddling. I joined the training group for kids at one of the local clubs in Augsburg, the “Augsburger Kajak Verein”, at the age of 7. When I think back to my first years as a kayaker, racing was not very important for me. I just enjoyed it to being at the river, building sand castles and dams. I also liked to paddle in the whitewater with my slalom kayak or a playboat. At the age of around 16 it changed, and I also started to enjoy the hard training, pushing myself to get the most out of my body. I developed quickly, made the Junior National Team and brought some medals and titles back home from Junior World and European Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Up to now, the most special achievements for me have been those where I managed to do something for the first time and was able to reach a new level of performance, like making the german senior team for the first time, winning my first world cup, racing the Olympic Games and finally becoming World Champion. The next big goal for is to make it to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and to race for the Gold medal.

Besides Kayaking, I always tried to have some diversion. I studied business administration and have a Bachelor and Master of Science. Currently I am attending a graduate program at the “WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management”, one of the most recognized Business Schools in Germany. In many situations of my career as an athlete this was important to me, because I always knew that I had an alternative plan I could focus on if I e.g. got injured or didn’t make the team.

I really like the Racer ST, probably the biggest innvoation to our sport and the style of paddling since the change from 4m to 3,5m boats.
