Mallory's 2023 Season Preview

The start of the season is just on the horizon and I am sure everyone is excited for the racing to start!

I just watched the rest of the senior team leave Lee Valley and fly off to Germany for the first World Cup of the season, I've made the decision to sit this one out so my racing starts next week in Prague, but I am really excited to watch the rest of the team go out there, enjoy themselves and see what they can deliver!

It always is a little daunting coming out of a long winter, not knowing whether everything you've worked on has been worth it, if you're going to be able to put it together when you want to, and if it will be enough, made especially hard when you've had a disrupted winter, as I did after breaking my hand at the back end of last year. But at the end of the day, you have to trust that you did your best, you will always make the decision you think is right in the moment and go out there and enjoy the experience.

I'm really looking forward to getting back out to Europe, paddling on some different rivers again, immersing myself in the atmosphere of racing and really trying to make the most of the opportunities ahead. This season is set to be an exciting one. Canoe Slalom is included in the European Games which will be held in Krakow at the end of June, it is an amazing opportunity for the whole team to get to race as Team GB, wearing Team GB kit and experience a multisport games giving valuable experience of what an Olympic Games will be like. Later in the year we have a home World Championships at Lee Valley which is going to be an amazing event and I know the whole team are so excited to be able to race in front of a home crowd! And throughout the year we have our World Cup races dotted around Europe on some iconic sites including the future Olympic Course in Paris!

Mixed in with all of that we have Olympic Quota races, Olympic Selection and 2024 Senior Team selection, so a busy year!

I hope you'll join me with supporting every GB team athlete this year alongside the PeakPS athletes from across the world. Let's see what the year will bring!
