Irish Surf Kayak Open

The Irish open was held in Easky on the 28th of September, it's always a highlight of my year and this year was no different. I headed down a few days early and had 3 great sessions on the west coast and was excited for the competition to start.

My first heat was the open short boat, which went really well, I caught my first wave right into the rocky shore, linking turns the whole way in, and I was quickly able to follow it up, scoring two waves over 8 points, and a 9, winning the heat. I followed this up with the long boat where I came second, but still made it through to the quarter finals.

This was fortunately followed by a long rest, as from the short boat quarter finals onwards, everything becomes a blur, filled with hard surfing, a bunch of firsts and seconds, trying to stay warm and dry, trying to eat enough to keep energy levels high and making both of the finals.

I surfed my best but unfortunately I wasn't able to do enough to win, but I'm still stoked to have come away with two 3rd places against a really tough field, with everyone at the competition putting on some amazing surfing over the day. A massive well done to everyone at the contest for a great weekend, and a massive thanks to Paddlesurf Ireland for running another amazing contest. I can't wait till next year.
