Peak UK News: July 2015
Celebrating 25 years of Peak UK.
What an achievement. 25 years in business!! So to celebrate we just had a huge party weekend here in Darley Dale. The event featured all of Pete’s favourite things… Beer, curry, bands and paddling.
The Peak UK factory was open for tours, coffee, beer and pork pie on Friday afternoon and Sunday morning!!
More than 60 faces past and present from the Peak UK family paddled the mighty Derwent Canyon from Darley Bridge to Cromford Meadows. Retro was order of the day, with many gear relics on display along with dusted off Riot Kayaks including the Hammer, 007 and composite Glide prototypes.
Peak UK kids and parents enjoyed a great splash on Cromford Canal, followed by a kids party with grub and a bouncy castle at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale.
Andy Clegg & Andy Whitaker from the Sun & the Moon ( one of Pete’s favourite bands ) played acoustic covers and a few of their own classic tunes.
Pete and Pringle showed an inspiring movie and slide presentation detailing Peak UK’s 25 year history. From it’s beginnings at No Limits shop on Trent Boulevard to right now, ending with Pete’s 20 month old son Alfie on his first outing in a kayak. The film also showed nostalgic highlights from the Riot Years, id10t1c days, the Zambezi, Nepal, London 2012, Team Peak UK Champions and more….
Peak UK’s favourites Burdock rocked out the Whitworth Centre with all their classic songs including Everyone, DD Debbie, Sometimes, Harvey’s Oak etc etc… They ended the superb evening with an awesome rendition of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades. Their amazing performance marked the end of their musical career! Burdock kindly awarded Pete one of their prize possession Telecaster guitars, fully signed by everyone present and detailing their final gig’s set list. Pete was overwhelmed by their generosity and support over the years for his business! What a proper brilliant end to an amazing night. Thank you Burdock.
Great to see so many faces from the past, with so many kids for the future!! What a great weekend. Let’s make it an annual Peak UK River Derwent Festival in the future. More details soon..
Special thanks to everyone involved, especially – The Square & Compass. Darley Dale. The Whitworth Centre, Willersley Castle, Burdock, Andy Clegg & Andy Whitaker, Pringle, Thornbridge Brewery and all who came and joined in the fun!!
To top it all, we raised an amazing £1700 for Babu’s Rebuild Nepal Schools Earth Quake Fund. Thanks so much for you kind donations.
