Autumn boating with Besty
It’s been a busy October of delivering Paddle UK courses, and kayak guiding and coaching in the world of JBC.
October is a great month for boating! It’s wetter, still warm(ish) and the Scottish dams remain releasing until the end of the month. Throw the beautiful colours of Autumn into the mix and you have a month of pure boating joy!
A combination of Raft Guide training and assessments in England and Wales and Kayak coaching and guiding on the Scottish classics kept me (and my van) very busy.
October started with our annual Raft Guide School! A great opportunity for aspiring raft guides to receive training and assessments on some of the classic rivers of England and Wales. This year saw assessments ranging from Grade 2 Raft Guide to Trip Leader Grade 3.
The rest of the month saw me head to Scotland for two weeks of kayaking bliss!
My UK tour ended with an awesome six days of coaching and guiding for the European White Water School.
The EWWS Scotland Camp saw a combination of 16 adults and teens take to the classic rivers of the Scottish highlands. The Etive, Orchy, Spean and Moriston provided ultimate training grounds for some world class kayaking. The young guns of the EWWS demonstrated awesome displays of style, skill and enthusiasm in a way that can only be described as “steeze of the highest level” :)
It’s super exciting to see such young paddlers, demonstrating great lines, respect for the river and a mature approach to safety for themselves and their fellow paddlers.
I look forward to watching their progression in the years to come!
Stay tuned for my Winter / Spring updates
