Peak UK Indoor Kayaking Challenge The Outdoors Show. Birmingham NEC March 16-18th.
The NEC Event is on.... Bigger and better than before with great prizes from leading outdoor brands.
This year will see the second fully indoor Peak UK Kayaking Challenge. The event will combine freestyle, sprint and slalom skills to find overall champions. This unique event will attract world leading athletes from all the BCU competition disciplines. Classes include: Mens. Ladies. Juniors.
This is an invitational event. There may be a few spare places, so if you want to be a part of the action contact the event organiser with a brief paddling resume at: pete@peakuk.com
The Events:
Head to Head X Slalom: Athlete’s line up side by side on start ramps then race head to head through a parallel series of slalom gates and other tricks including a hit me ball suspended head height above the water and an eskimo roll. The heats are timed and penalties awarded for missing gates or moves. From these results paddlers are seeded into pairs for the next exciting round.... (Modern 2m playboats must be used for this event)
Bungy Boatercross: Two or three at a time, athletes race head to head down the pool, the further they get, the harder it becomes as the carefully tensioned bungy they are attached to tightens...... The paddler that gets closest to the far end of the pool goes through for another race until the bungy king and queen are crowned. If paddlers dead heat then it’s time for a gruelling backwards tie breaker... ( all participants must use sub 200cm paddles and race in the Riot Sniper kayaks provided. )
Flatwater Freestyle Jam: Athlete’s take a one minute prelim run, two at a time, starting with an entry move off the ramps. They are judged for the number of different moves performed. These will include all the usual hole moves like cartwheels, splitwheels, loops etc plus bow and stern stalls. Paddlers progress through heats, semis, then onto knockout finals. (Modern 2m playboats must be used for this event)
Results from all three event sections are combined and the top ten athletes in each class go through to the grand knockout X Slalom finals.
If you like the action and fancy a go yourself then Kids come and try it / coaching sessions will be run in the pool throughout the show at all other times.
