Surf Kayaking World Champion Tamsin Green The World Championships arrived and we headed across the Atlantic to North Carolina and the Outer Banks. The set up of the comp was amazing, especially considering Hurricane Irene had forced the relocation of the comp just 2 weeks before kick off. 9 days of competition followed, a tough mental challenge at the best of times to maintain focus for that long. We had fantastic waves for the event which allowed all the competitors to really show off their talents. In my individual HP heats I achieved 1st place through out. After each win my confidence and my focus grew as did the pressure of expectation from others. I briefly fell apart mentally, once in the team finals where I came 3rd in a heat and then in the Long boat final where I achieved 4th place. That was hard I had just 25 minutes to refocus, find my belief and surf for the High performance championship. With a lot of effort and courage to wait for the biggest and best shaped waves and some great support I achieved a long held dream to be Women's HP World Champion. I have now won every major Women's title which I am very proud of.
Dan finished in 25th place having struggled to get a second high scoring wave in my heat which was very frustrating but the nature of competing.
