Chandra River, India. Team Peak UK kayaker Steve Brooks and his wife Ute are now back in their second home of Manali India. Situated in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, Manali is renowned for a lot of things, its climate, laid back atmosphere, good curries and friendly people. However just over the other side of the mountains lays a sleeping giant of a river.
The couple had just met up with fellow kayakers Annie Quathamer and Kim Grant who had been kayaking the past month up in Ladakh and a plan was hatched for the Chandra River.
For the next 6 days the girls and Steve paddled some fantastic whitewater all set in one of the most dramatic landscapes the Himalayas has to offer!
From the small "Dhaba" stop of Chhatru all the way down to Tandi where the Bhaga joins and forms the notorious Chenab the Team were running plenty of big drops, avoiding massive holes and negotiating some long, long rapids.
Steve is quoted as saying "This has to be one of my all time favourite rivers and not just in the Himalayas. It has everything an expedition kayaker is looking for."
