Viking End Season on a High

The final domestic competition of the 2010/11 season was held at the weekend (9th -10th July 2011), The National Club Championships. Viking A attended confident they could retain the Championship for the forth year in a row. The club were also represented in the Youth Competition and the Development Division.

The first stage was to get through the group; three teams stood in the way. Although not quite up to full speed Viking conceded only 5 goals and scored over 30 in the first round leaving them top of the group. Two more teams stood in Viking's way to securing the title in the second round. Viking improved their game and began playing as a team. An intense performance against Tees Tigers left them 10-1 winners with just Meridian B between them and the semi Final. Again Viking were up to speed quickly, leading 5-0, a slight blip let the score slip to 5-3 before Viking ran out comfortable winners 10-3.

The semi final was against Dragon. Viking played a good solid game, not trying anything too clever to reach their sixth National Club Championships final in a row. There was a six hour break before the final giving the team time to support the other Viking teams, something there isn't always time to do but which is always enjoyable.

As always seems to be the case, Meridian C would be the final opposition. After the final league game of the season, which ended 1-1, it could have been a nervy affair. It wasn't. Viking played their team game and were solid in defence breaking quickly to take the lead. Although Meridian did pull two goals back Viking never really looked troubled.

A great result for the team helping them to a forth National Club Champs victory in a row and undefeated domestically for over 3 and half years.

The team was; Martyn Williamson, George Murfin, Andy Petrie, Tom Baston, Ross Montgomery, Nick Archer and James Bowers.

Vikings other teams also had great results. The Youth and Development teams came 3rd in their respective divisions, which was fantastic considering this was the first competition three of the development team had entered. Claire Mitchell played for FOA Ladies and won the Ladies division. Congratulations to all of the Viking players.

We'd also like to add our thanks to Tees Tigers for running the tournament and well done to Meridian C for winning team of the year, an award voted by our peers for the team that is considered to play, act and look like a team both on and off the water.
