Slalom Worlds So Far...

The 2010 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships are currently under way in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In actual fact they are currently postponed today due to very high water levels in the River Sava caused by 48hrs of heavy rain. Before the flood waters arrived the organisers managed to run a qualification for 4 categories yesterday.

The Peak UK team were well represented with 6 paddlers on the GB team.

Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott racing in the Mens C2 category began the day badly with a messy first run which left them lying in 22nd place, outside the 20 boat qualification zone, at the start of their second run. Fortunately for them they managed a much better second run and leapfrogged 21 boats to qualify in first place.

Fiona Pennie and Lizzie Neave were both in action in the Womens K1 qualification race. They both put down solid runs under difficult weather conditions to progress to the Semi-Final in 17th and 15th places respectively.

In the Mens C1 category Peak UK were represented by Greg Pitt who showed good fast pace on both runs but had a few costly mistakes as well which unfortunately meant he missed the 30 boat qualification mark and finished 34th.

Mens K1 qualification was due to happen this afternoon but has been postponed due to the very high river level so Huw Swetnam has yet to begin his Worlds campaign.
