Kayaking Kate sets new round Anglesey record Peak UK paddler Kate Duffus paddled the 122km circuit of Anglesey in North Wales in 13hrs 8mins (albeit with considerable tidal assistance). She was wearing a Tourlite Hoody jacket, River Vest PFD and a Peak Tow Line (not for towing, but as a solo paddler, for attaching herself to her kayak in case of swims).
The route started at Cable Bay just as the flood tide began and went with tide past Penrhyn Mawr and the infamous South and North Stacks, then directly to Carmel Head and along the north coast. The crossing to Puffin Island was mind numbing but his was made up for by the rollercoaster ride along the Menai Straights. To finish Kate had a strong headwind to contend with but managed to take an hour and a half off the previous best time. Kate's comment at the end of it all was: "There's plenty of potential for doing it faster so I'm sure I'll be back for more soon."
