Freestyle World Champs 2009 Thun was the host for the 2009 ICF freestyle world Championships a vibrant town in the heart of the Swiss mountains. The event had a great atmosphere with spectators arriving to watch the worlds best preform at one of the biggest Championships held to date, with more nations entering than ever before including Nepal and Uganda.
Team GB was set to make a mark taking one of the largest teams along and a hefty amount of crowd support. First of the finals GB took claim to was won by team Peak UK paddler Claire O'Hara in the Womens Squirt category who scored some impressive downtime and a hat full of high scoring moves to take the top spot. GB also took the Men's Squirt title by James Reeves.
In the OC1 US team Peak UK Paddler Jeremy Laucks put in an impressive performance to take gold. The C1 competition was dominated by our very own team Peak UK paddler Dave Bainbridge who held top 2 positions throughout the event and was crowned World Champion after throwing down some of the biggest moves the seen in the final. Emily Jackson of USA won the ladies and Nouria Newmann was a cut above the rest of the junior ladies not only taking gold but also landing a score that would have placed her 2nd in the senior event. Jason Craig (USA) won the junior mens title whilst Eric Jackson (USA) was pipped to the post by Nick Troutman (CA) who threw the highest scoring ride of the competition in a strong final in the senior event. Team Peak UK paddlers Jon Best and Dicky Chrimes put in an impressive performance to land them in the quarter finals with Jon finishing 16th and Dicky in 20th.
