Surf Team Update

As the surf season gets underway for Me and Tamsin I thought I'd keep you up to date with our exploits and forthcoming events.

Thankfully the clocks have now changed which to me signifies an end to cold winter surfs. This past winter has seen many a cold day and many a cold surf. On more than a few occasions the sand has been frozen which always strikes as being strange. Despite the weather being cold, we were able to manage 2 hour surfs which is a new one for us. In a typical Northeast winter we usually manage about an hour. We put this down to the Peakuk Racer cagdecks which meant we were windproof and more importantly the cut is so good it never catches the water under the arms which is a problem we've had before when doing high energy turns on the wave. I've recommended these to a few guys who have gone on to get one.

Whilst the cold had its grip Tamsin was also fortunate to be awarded the Alnwick sports council Female sports personality of the year 2008 for the second year running beating off some strong local competition.

This coming week will see us travel to Cornwall for a week of surfing culminating in our first comp of the year at Bude. A good forecast should ensure we are in peak form for the comp. A quick flight back to do a weeks work then back the following Friday for a comp in St Ives means the next few weeks are sure to be hectic.

The first weekend in May sees the start of the Coldwater series of comps a new contest in the Northeast that we are both helping to run alongside Chris Harvey more details here http://www.coldwaterkayaksurf.co.uk/

This years focus though has to be the World Surf kayak championships held at Santa Cruz Portugal 23rd July to 3rd August which will seee us both compete for England and as individuals against the worlds best.

In the meantime keep an eye open for an article on our last Indo trip which will should be published in the next edition of xsport magazine a new online extreme sports mag which can be found here http://www.xsport-magazine.com

Later in the year we are hoping to get out to Morroco to explore some African waves and culture with a longterm aim of getting a surf kayak boat trip in the Mentawai islands or Maldives.
