Peak Paddlers do well at Surf Kayak World Cup
The 2008 Surf Kayak world cup came to a close this past Saturday at Il D’Oleron France.
As finalist both Tamsin and Dan Green headed out there to see what the waves would bring having qualified at this years Europeans held in April at Mundaka Northern Spain.
First to compete was Dan in the men’s event. A great performance in round one saw him take 1stplace and qualify to the head to head rounds despite hard conditions. Carrying an injury sustained on a recent trip to Scotland he was still able to go hard in this next round and after some great rides using his whole repertoire of manoeuvres he qualified for the quarter final stages and was one of the final 8 left to compete for the title of 2008 World champion.
Quarter final saw Dan up against Dave Speller and with hard wave conditions was always going to be tough. "15 long minutes of this heat saw us both chasing up and down the beach looking for a workable shoulder and it was down to Dave to take the victory and left me in 5th place a great achievement for what has been a great journey this year."
The men's finals saw Edu Exterria and Dave Speller go head to head with Edu finding some long dynamic rides and Taking the Men's title for this year.
In the women’s it was down to Tamsin to represent Peak UK and it was clear from the start that she had been working hard over the summer in preparation for the World cup.
From the first round on Tamsin tore up the competition managing some great high scoring heats followed by a convincing win in both her quarter and semi finals. However by far the best performance of the competition for her was the final where she laid down some of the most solid rides I have seen her perform in competition to date, seeking out long rides and surfing them to perfection. "I just went out and surfed and had fun. It was great to surf and link lots of moves on good waves for the finals. After working hard on my surfing over the summer it was great to be awarded first place in the World cup and an achievement that I’m very proud of"
And that was that a great event for us both.
A huge thanks to all the folks involved with the organisation and running of the event it was great to see so many people having fun and enjoying a great week.

Finally thanks to Peak UK for your kit
